DARK GAIA'S PROFILE
Dark Gaia

I develop games and I write. I have a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and journalism. I like writing speculative fiction, horror and literary fiction, sometimes all blended together. You can find elements of my writing in my games, because I consider my games to be stories just that happen to have gameplay.
I post updates on my Facebook and Twitter:

Updates and call for Beta Testers.
Well, it's good to have you back, Darc! If you haven't played the original game to completion yet, you should get around to that sometime, as well. It will make the sequel more enjoyable.

I think what Moose means is that I forgot to add his name to the list, and I agreed back on my Facebook page to let him beta test. I'll edit the post now with the final list (8 people).
@Moose: Expect a PM with some details soon.

Turning over to the "Dark Side"?
I didn't realise art assets cost so much. When my publisher commissioned a cover for my novel, they mentioned it being only around $200, so assumed that 2k would be reasonable for a few pictures and some tilesets etc. I'd also mainly spend the money on having scripts constructed for the game, as there are many things I'd like to do but don't have the skill to, and I doubt any scripter would do it for free.
I agree with you that it's a great idea to make a trailer as well. To be honest, I'd love to have a trailer to circulate around, but I lack the skill and don't have any considerable recording software (the video I used for the indiegogo project is one of my fans' "Let's Play" videos, used with permission). I don't have the funds to spring for proper software or to pay someone to make a trailer, either.
Your points are very valid, but the whole reason I'm resorting to crowd-funding is because I have nowhere near enough to even begin acquiring custom materials or additional utilities for the game. I'm basically spending everything I have to assist in the marketing of my novel when it's released.

Turning over to the "Dark Side"?
Come on, don't be like that (yes, I've read your blog post). I haven't said it is going commercial. In all honesty, it probably won't, but I felt like asking the question to see what people think.
I reckon I'll keep it a freely distributed game for now. Just wanted to run through a few ideas, though...
As for resorting to crowd-sourcing, well that's a modest request because I'd like to be able to pay for custom content for the game. As I recall, you said that's something you may be doing yourself with your game. I'd never ask for more than $1000 - $2000 for an RM* game. Those games that want upwards of 10k are pretty outrageous, if you ask me. I wouldn't even ask that much to support a non-RM* game, if I was making one.

Lakewood Story: Episode 1
Oh, I'm not worrying about your game or anything. I didn't mean any ill-will. I just didn't think it was a good idea to mention someone else's game in your own description. I've been told off in the past for doing something like that.
